so far all my scroll saw work has been done on 2 entry level saws. I started with a Wen but most have been done on my "Franken-Craftsman".
the opportunity came up to buy a Hawk 226VS scroll saw from a local attest.
In mint condition i paid only a little more than $300 and it cuts like a dream.
my only problem i found when cutting my first portrait is, DUST!!!
after only 2 or 3 minutes i had to put on my mask, but this did nothing to keep it out of
thankfully my model has a 7/8" hole in the frame directly below the lower blade mount.
i decided to use 3/4in PVC to hook up my shop vac.
so below the frame i used 3/4 PVC connected to a 3/4 threaded coupler to a 3/4 to 1" adapter on top of the frame.
I did not want it clogged by large pieces that might fall through the hole in the table so to prevent
that i drilled four 3/16" holes in the sides and the same in a cap for the top.
it is all dry fitted together including the hose fitting on the vac.
this did the trick. 2 more portraits done and almost no dust on the frame or in the air.
i hope my solution helps someone
